About Mango Tree Home

How do you pick up the pieces? How do you survive more than one more day? How do you help others along the way? Nurse Genevievre found herself facing those exact questions after a life altering earthquake hit Haiti on January 12, 2010. As the only health provider tending to 6000 residents of the emergency camp at the Dadadou sports field in Port Au Prince. Genevievre also found herself caring for 74 children in makeshift tents. Her care was unconditional and she soon realised that she needed to find a more permanent and safe solution to protect the vulnerable group of children. She needed a home for herself and those who had become reliant on her love and support. While living at the camp, donated tents and camp beds made it possible for Genevievre to keep the children together and keep a watchful and loving eye on them all, It was there that they learned to live together as a family.

Genevievre shared her dream with Robert Craft, Robert had been in Haiti assisting a large US NGO in the aftermath of the earth quake, in amongst the devastation and sadness lurked the risk of child abuse and abduction, working together land was purchased and construction started and a new safer environment was established for the children to build a future. Genevievre in the back ground whilst managing the welfare of the children relentlessly researched all the children’s family trees and managed to place many back with relatives, she currently cares for nineteen children who are without any surviving family members.

The way forward

Education will also be key to development and we are looking how we achieve this effectively, maybe we bring a teacher into the Home and fulfil the initial primary needs? Education will come at a cost along with transportation to local schools if there are places, many challenges exist. All money donated will go directly to the Mango Tree Home bank account in Haiti which is controlled by Genevievre and Herve Fils Aime a former policeman and currently a security manager in Port Au Prince, both are completely trustworthy and good people. We have set a target of £120,000 this amount will keep the home and children in good shape for 11 years or more. The Dream has come true to a certain extent, the challenge now is we need support to maintain the dream and turn bigger dreams for these children into reality
